Some steps on preventing dry sockets

July 19th, 2010 . by admin

The foremost requirement for preventing dry sockets is good oral hygiene that includes regular brushing of teeth in the morning and at night before going to sleep. That will prevent the wound from getting infected. Ensure that your tooth is well cleaned at the time of extraction. If you are a smoker, stop smoking for a few days during the operation. If you find that difficult then avoid smoking for two or three days after the operation. Smoking affects you in two ways. The suction action can remove the blood clot. Secondly, smoking can reduce the self healing powers of the body. Do not drink with a straw or spit and rinse for at leas two days after the operation. Women on birth control pills should have tooth removed during the end of their menstrual cycle.
