A Short course in Cherry Sizing
February 15th, 2010 . by adminAnyone who enjoys fresh fruit knows that the wonderful, edible cherry comes in many different sizes. What they may not be aware of is the thought that has gone into making sure consumers get exactly the size fruit they want. Years ago the fruit was packed by hand, in neat rows. The cherries were then measured by the number in a row, so if 8 cherries fit in a row, the cherries would be called 8 row. Today they are processed using automatic cherry sizing machinery, then readied for packing. Once packed, the correct size of cherries can be efficiently shipped to precisely the markets which need them.
